The picture was painted in 1757 by Benedict Werkstiitter on the occasion of a visit to the mine by the Prince Bishop Sigmund III. of Salzburg on 5th of May 1756 (bottom right, corner). At the top of the painting and on the steps are mine surveyors and a miner at work. Note the romantic landscape painted on the wall rock.
