LETTER FROM ALEXANDRE BARMINE Addressed, ISt December 1937, to the Committee of Enquiry into the Moscow Trials, and to the Central Committee of the League of the Rights of Man. Having just left the service of the Government of the U.S.S.R., I feel it my duty to bring to your knowledge the following facts, and to lodge with you, in the name of Humanity and of the Rights of Man, an indignant protest against crimes the list of which grows daily longer. In December 1935 I was appointed First Secretary of Legation for the U.S.S.R. in Athens, and since March 1937, I acted as Charge d'Affaires. For nineteen years I was in Soviet government service; for nineteen years I was a member of the Russian Communist Party.
