Description: This is intended as a study guide for the certification exam for dermatology. The notes are densely organized for just about every subject that is tested. Numerous helpful tables summarize and compare various treatment modalities (such as laser), drug use in pregnancy, and the structure and function of the components of the basement membrane. If you are trying to decide what else to cram into your brain last minute, this is your book.
Purpose: The purpose is to aid candidates in preparation for the certifying board examination for dermatology.
Audience: The audience is dermatology residents and dermatologists who are planning to take the dermatology certification/recertification exam.
Features: The color photographs are helpful for self testing on quick identification of various skin diseases. I would recommend reading Fitzpatrick's (Fitzpatrick's Dermatology in General Medicine, 7th edition, Wolff et al. (McGraw-Hill, 2007)) or Rook's (Rook's Textbook of Dermatology, 7th Edition, Burns et al. (Blackwell, 2004)) chapters on a given subject and then testing yourself by reading the corresponding chapter in the board review book and see if you already know the listed salient features.
Assessment: This should be a useful study aid for prospective candidates preparing for their board certification examinations. It probably would be a good idea to use this as an adjuvant educational tool throughout dermatology residency rather than waiting until the last few months to try to absorb all the material.
