معرفی کتاب «ماریناها: راهنمای کامل برای ارزیابی، انتخاب و زندگی راحت در مارینای خود: راهنمای کامل برای انتخاب مارینا، آگاهی از طوفان و زندگی راحت در یخت خود» (با عنوان لاتین Marinas: The Complete Guide for Evaluation, Selection and Living Comfortably at Your Marina: The Complete Guide for Marina Selection, Storm Awareness and Living Comfortably Aboard Your Yacht) نوشتهٔ McDowell, Scott E، منتشرشده توسط نشر Atlantic Publishing Group در سال 2015. این کتاب در فرمت epub، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
This book represents recent research on tropical cyclones and their impact, and a wide range of topics are covered. An updated global climatology is presented, including the global occurrence of tropical cyclones and the terrestrial factors that may contribute to the variability and long-term trends in their occurrence. Research also examines long term trends in tropical cyclone occurrences and intensity as related to solar activity, while other research discusses the impact climate change may have on these storms. The dynamics and structure of tropical cyclones are studied, with traditional diagnostics employed to examine these as well as more modern approaches in examining their thermodynamics. The book aptly demonstrates how new research into short-range forecasting of tropical cyclone tracks and intensities using satellite information has led to significant improvements. In looking at societal and ecological risks, and damage assessment, authors investigate the use of technology for anticipating, and later evaluating, the amount of damage that is done to human society, watersheds, and forests by land-falling storms. The economic and ecological vulnerability of coastal regions are also studied and are supported by case studies which examine the potential hazards related to the evacuation of populated areas, including medical facilities. These studies provide decision makers with a potential basis for developing improved evacuation techniques. Ph. D. Oceanographer Scott McDowell's comprehensive guidebook is written for new boaters as well as those selecting a home port for their live-abroad retirement. The book is filled with practical tips including how to approach Marina Management, selecting the best type of slip for easy docking and dinghy storage, assessing amenities, interpreting vessel insurance policies and more. Also covered are key ocean processes such as tides, storm surge, tsunamis and lightning to maximize safety for the boat owner and vessel. Dr. McDowell educates by example with a bit of humor and sea salt sprinkled in. For the computer savvy boater, websites are given for the best weather and storm forecasts, as well as tides. Dr. McDowell grew up by the sea on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. From an early age he fished for enjoyment then employment through his college years, winning Tuna Tournaments with fish weighing over 600 pounds. After obtaining his Ph. D. in Ocean Physics, he conducted research in the deep North Atlantic Ocean and made the first-ever discovery of 60-mile-wide ocean eddies (thereafter named 'Meddies') swirling a mile below the surface as they moved westward from the Straits of Gibraltar. His discovery spawned international research on mid-ocean eddies for the next two decades. During his oceanographic career, he led research programs for analysis of currents, tides, waves and water quality characteristics in coastal and deep-ocean environments. Projects ranged from an investigation of seafloor volcanoes at 63 South latitude in the Antarctic Ocean to studies at the remote Yukon River Delta in the Alaskan Bering Sea and measurements of deep currents affecting submerged gas production platforms in the Gulf of Thailand. He also conducted oceanographic programs for State and U.S. federal agencies, as well as commercial clients worldwide Four-decade boater and Ph.D. Oceanographer Scott McDowell covers every aspect of marinas in this comprehensive guidebook written for new boaters as well as those selecting a home port for their live-aboard retirement. Filled with practical tips including: how to approach marina management, selecting the best type of slip for easy docking and dinghy storage, assessing marina amenities, interpreting vessel insurance policies and more. Dr. McDowell also provides information on key ocean processes such as tides, storm surges, tsunamis and lightning to maximize safety for the boat owner and his/her vessel
