MAMA: Nuclear

Romanian and English A theatre play first performed in Bucharest, September 2022, produced by the Dialectic Center. Written and directed by Mihai Lukács. "The local context of condemning pacifism as a mere propagandistic expression, without any real justification, also had a pro-nuclear note, from the simple idea of bombing Moscow to the certainty of a Russian attack that must be answered with a even bigger nuclear force. These arguments horrified me. I consider nuclear weapons the most heinous human invention, and I continue to hope for total nuclear disarmament, a possible and necessary global action. The show takes the idea of the nuclear attack into a very concrete area: a nuclear attack on Bucharest that provokes a suicidal reaction of our sect. As absurd as the story may seem and as taken to the limit, it has at its center a grain of truth and a fear that dominates various global communities. This fear was very present in the 1960s and 1970s and produced anti-nuclear narratives beyond the antagonistic camps of the Cold War." (Mihai Lukács)
