description:this Book Summarizes The Major Animal/experimental Models Of Sleep-related Breathing Disorders And How These Disorders Relate To Current Clinical Application And Thinking In Sleep Disorders, In Particular Sleep Apnea. The Book Does This By Providing An Introduction To Sleep Disorders, Applying Modern Neuroscience To Regulation Of Breathing During Sleep, Reviewing Current And Historical Animal Models, And By Exploring Naturally Occurring Sleep-related Breathing Disorders In Animals.
purpose:the Purpose Is To Provide A Basis Of Understanding Of How Sleep-related Breathing Disorders Can Be Viewed, Researched, And Approached From A Laboratory Perspective. The Authors Provide An Excellent And Thorough Summary Of Nearly All Known Animal Models And Bench Research On This Subject. This Is Indeed Quite Important To Readers Interested In Sleep-related Breathing Disorders For An Existing Database Of Basic Science Research Information, And As A Launching Pad For Future Directions In Clinical Applications.
audience:according To The Authors, This Book Is Intended For Clinician Investigators And Basic Scientists, Though They Do Not Specify In Which Particular Fields. I Believe That It Is Intended For Those People Who Are Directly Involved With Basic Science Research Into Sleep-related Disorders And For Those Clinicians In Sleep Medicine Who Desire A Comprehensive Review Of Animal Models. The Authors Are Indeed Qualified To Write This Book, As Many Of Them Are The Originators Of Much Of The Research That Has Been Done.
features:the Book Begins With An Introduction To Sleep-related Breathing Disorders, Then Explores Artificial And Naturally Occurring Animal Models. It Does Touch On Some Of The Potential Clinical Applications. The Authors Do A Superb Job Of Collecting Nearly All Known Studies And Summarizing The Data. They Support Their Effort With Easy To Understand Diagrams, Charts, And Figures. However, They Often Present More Information Than Can Be Easily Understood And Do Not Outline The Importance Of Each Individual Study.
assessment:this Is An Excellent Textbook For The Basis Of Sleep-related Breathing Disorders And Should Be Used As Such -- It Is Thorough And Concise And Assists The Reader In Acquiring Nearly All Knowledge In This Field. For The Non-basic Science Researcher, However, This May Be Overwhelming. Though It Certainly Provides A Basis For Sleep Research, It Does Not Help Us To Easily Understand Existing Clinical Knowledge. To My Knowledge, This Is The First Book In This Field To Cover So Broad And Complex A Topic So Thoroughly.
