Some 30 yrs ago, at a time when the world was still struggling to find its feet after the most devastating war in history, there was born in California an aeroplane which, despite its military raison detre, was to become one of the most remarkable tools of world reconstruction and development, an aircraft so powerful and robust, and capable of moving such great loads, that it could bear but one name- Hercules.
