Uno de los retos por resolver por parte de las organizaciones en la actualidad es el de la relación entre propietarios y ejecutivos, en favor de los objetivos de la empresa. Este reto se intensifica cuando se refiere a organizaciones en las cuales los propietarios cumplen un rol dual con respecto a los mencionados, como ocurre en las empresas familiares. El objetivo de este artículo es explicar la forma en la que ocurre esta relación entre propietarios y ejecutivos en empresas familiares, desde la perspectiva de la teoría de agencia, a partir de la revisión crítica de literatura relevante sobre estos temas. El resultado de este estudio conceptual permite entender la complejidad de la dinámica principal-agente en empresas familiares y cómo la teoría de agencia puede contribuir a esta con base en las recomendaciones finales propuestas. Palabras clave: Empresas familiares, teoría de agencia, stewardship, control de organizaciones Summary One of the challenges to be solved by organizations today is the relationship between their owners and executives, in favor of the objectives of the company. This challenge is intensified when it refers to organizations in which the owners play a dual role with respect to those mentioned, as it happens in family businesses. The objective of this article is to explain the way in which this relationship between owners and executives in family businesses occurs, from the perspective of Agency Theory and through the critical review of relevant literature on these topics. The result of this conceptual study allows us to understand the complexity of the main-agent dynamics in family businesses and how the Agency Theory can contribute based on the final recommendations proposed.
