As with previous volume in this series, the chapters presented here address current research issues important to behavioural scientists, educators, and clinicians concerned with the nature of mental retardation and its prevention and amelioration. The six chapters address four general areas. The first area is the measurement of adaptive behaviour from a life-span perspective and the second is the development of speech, language, and communication in mentally regarded children. The third research area is the assessment of psychological and educational functioning in the Soviet Union, and the last is cognitive processes in mildly retarded children and adults.
