On what basis is the military power of the nations in the contemporary era sustained? The book questions the "conventional wisdom" and assumptions assumed by current literature regarding the relationship of science, technology and industry with strategy. In the search for answers, it examines the historical course of construction of military capabilities in industrialized countries and addresses the trajectories of a set of indigenous cases that make it possible to highlight the contrasts between sectoral dynamics. In parallel, the Argentina of the twentieth century records the existence of strategic thoughts with dissimilar ideas and interests that led to different development models. Some tended to favor freedom of action and national decision-making capacity, while others had the opposite effect. The conceptual articulation between development, industry and defense, recovers the notion of technological autonomy, trying to revitalize a fundamental debate in the field of defense studies
