India’s relations with the global economy have a long history spanning severalcenturies and, even in the post-Independence period, there have been differentphases and degrees of integration. Yet, it is safe to say that economicglobalization has formed an important determining feature of the Indiandevelopment experience, especially since the early 1990s, and that the currentconditions in the Indian economy cannot be understood without reference to thenature and impact of processes of globalization specifically within India. Thisvolume contains a set of contributions that cover the aspects of India’s relationswith the global economy through trade, investment, and finance, as well as theimplications of these relations for various domestic processes and outcomes. This three-volume collection of studies carried out by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) contains relevant and dominant streams of researches conducted in sociology and social anthropology during the last decade. It looks at the history of Indian sociology presenting its theories and knowledge. It uses first-hand research by senior scholars which are unpublished elsewhere. Further contents are the Dalit studies, gender, sociology of tribes and communication research in India.
