In Search of Civility: Confronting Incivility on the College Campus addresses a way that an existing institution--the modern American college--can actively foster civility instead of expecting students to develop this virtue on their own. Civil conduct requires treating others the way one wishes to be treated--with due regard to for individual differences--as well as a sense of duty and responsibility to the community. The work adds to current knowledge and practice by drawing upon real life experiences of students in their interactions with one another, with faculty members and with the larger college community.
