Immigrants who have established their own businesses have contributed in many ways to the economic development of American and European metropolitan areas. The aim of this book is to understand why some of these businesses are incorporated into the mainstream while others stay on the economic fringes by focusing on their embeddedness in their economic, politico-institutional and social environments. In the past few years, a considerable number of immigrants have established their own businesses. In doing so, they have contributed in many ways to the economic development of American and European metropolitan areas.
