When my son started to be bullied at school, at first I didn't know what I could do to help. I knew he was always a shy boy, but he was also very smart, and this sort of made bullies chase him. I actually got the idea to transform him into a girl when I was visiting his school one day to talk to the principal about his bullying problem. I saw one of the students who was clearly a girl wearing the boy's uniform, complete with pants and man's blazer. Nevertheless, it was clearly a girl. I asked the principal about this, and she told me that some female students didn't want to wear a skirt and they were allowed to wear pants if they wanted, as long as they were the pants from the boy's uniform. That's when I got the idea that my son could wear a skirt every day. On the one hand, I was trying to protect him. A bully isn't going to pick on a girl. But also, I always wanted a daughter. My son was shy, bookish, and perhaps a little arrogant, too. He knew he was smarter than a lot of the other students, and frankly, he acted like a little princess sometimes. In part, I thought that life as a girl would suit him perfectly. But I also knew that he wouldn't immediately take to his new life with no complaints. Petticoating, also known as petticoat discipline, is a time-honor method for correcting unruly male behavior. Basically, a boy who constantly behaves badly will immediately get in line if you just make him wear a dress. It really works, too. And it's not all that mean of a punishment either. I wear a dress or skirt almost every day, and it doesn't feel like a punishment to me at all. I don't think I need to tell you, it's not just a pleated skirt. If you're going to wear the girl's uniform, you kind of have to have the entire female look. So, over the summer, I let his hair grow long, I taught him how to walk like a lady in a dress, and he's also in panties. If your son complains about having to wear panties, tell him there's nothing to worry about. No one will see them—as long as he sits like a lady. I actually think that every mom should try out petticoating with her son because of all the benefits to his behavior. Also, I have yet to meet a mom who doesn't wish she had a little girl instead of a boy. Yes, we love all our kids, but moms always have a soft spot in our hearts for girls. And I knew, deep down, that my son had the soul and spirit of a girl. When I first dressed him up in his girl's uniform for school, it only made him look more adorable when he started to cry. I gave him a big hug, wiped away his tears, and told him to let it all out. We couldn't have him bawling in front of his classmates at school. He was a big girl now.
