Human Rights Dissemination in Central Asia: Human Rights Education and Capacity Building in the Post-Soviet Space (SpringerBriefs in Political Science)

معرفی کتاب «Human Rights Dissemination in Central Asia: Human Rights Education and Capacity Building in the Post-Soviet Space (SpringerBriefs in Political Science)» نوشتهٔ Anja Mihr (editor), Cindy Wittke (editor)، منتشرشده توسط نشر Springer International Publishing AG در سال 2023. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.

This open access book explores the field of human rights dissemination in Central Asia. Offering a comparative perspective on five post-Soviet Central Asian states -- Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan, it examines compliance with international human rights standards in these countries. The contributions capture various aspects of human rights dissemination through educational programs, seminars, training, and empowerment programs at Central Asian universities, together with Central Asian NGOs/CSOs and international organizations. The book shows that a change of behavior among state and non-state actors in the region can only happen when both local and international actors, usually international donors, jointly take action to report, train, and empower people in human rights. This book is an invitation to anyone interested in the (troubled) nexus between international human rights norms and standards and their implementation on the local level, as well as in the effective empowerment of citizen in the region Preface 6 Contents 8 Foreword 9 Human Rights Dissemination in Central Asia—Between Internationalization and Nation-Building 10 1 Introduction 10 2 Human Rights Instruments and ivil Society Legislation 11 2.1 Human Rights Instruments 11 2.2 Civil Society Organization-Related Legislation 12 3 Human Rights Education and Knowledge Dissemination 13 3.1 Teaching and Material 13 3.2 Academia 14 3.3 Social Media Usage 15 4 The Vital Role of Expertise in Central Asian Civil Societies 16 5 Sustainability and Evaluation of Successful CSO Projects 17 6 Recommendations 18 7 Conclusion 19 References 20 Human Rights in Central Asia - Challenges and Perspectives 22 1 Introduction 22 2 Kazakhstan 23 3 Kyrgyzstan 25 4 Tajikistan 27 5 Turkmenistan 28 6 Uzbekistan 29 7 Concluding Remarks 31 References 33 Human Rights Education in Central Asia 37 1 Introduction 37 1.1 Human Rights Education in Central Asia 38 2 Human Rights in Central Asia 40 3 Impact of Human Rights Education 42 4 Samarkand Declaration 2018 for Human Rights Education 44 5 Central Asian’ Human Rights (Education) Defenders 47 6 Conclusion 49 References 50 Human Rights as a Concept of Public Law: Challenges for Central Asian Higher Education Systems 52 1 Introduction 52 2 Human Rights as a Concept of (Public) Law and Knowledge Dissemination 53 3 Human Rights in the Education Sector in Central Asian States 56 3.1 Kazakhstan 57 3.2 Kyrgyzstan 58 3.3 Tajikistan 58 3.4 Uzbekistan 59 4 Challenges to Effective Instruction on Human Rights 60 5 Ways Ahead for Human Rights Education in Central Asia 62 6 Conclusion 63 References 64 Transnational Higher Education—The Case of Kazakhstan 66 1 Introduction 66 2 Transnational Higher Education Institutions: Global Phenomenon and Regional Practice 67 3 International Human Rights Education: A Conceptual Frame 68 4 THEIs in Kazakhstan: A Case Study 69 4.1 Methodology 69 4.2 Human Rights Education and Country Affiliation of THEIs 69 5 Human Rights Education in THEIs: Opportunities and Challenges 74 References 75 Redesigning the Law Curriculum in Uzbekistan 77 1 Introduction 77 2 Postsocialist Curricula Under Revision 79 3 Socratic Teaching Method 81 4 Case Law Study 83 5 Applied Learning 84 6 The Essence of Sociology of Law 85 7 Conclusion 88 References 90 Inclusive Human Rights Education in Tajikistan 92 1 Introduction 92 2 Development of Inclusive Education 94 3 Legislation on Inclusive Education 95 4 Shortcomings in Inclusive and Human Rights Education 97 5 The Virtual Nature of Inclusive Education 99 6 Perceptions and Misperceptions 100 7 The Policy-Implementation Gap 102 8 Unclear Inclusive Education Assessment System 103 9 Conclusion 104 References 105 Awareness in Central Asian States of Discrimination Against Labor Migrants 107 1 Introduction 107 2 Awareness of Migrant Rights in Five Central Asian Countries in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 110 3 Discussion of the Survey Results in Light of Response and Nonresponse Bias in an Authoritarian Context 112 4 Conclusion 114 References 115 Gender Equality and International Human Rights Law in Kyrgyzstan 117 1 Introduction 117 2 Gender-Related Socioeconomic Rights in Kyrgyzstan 118 3 Domestic and Gender-Based Violence 122 3.1 Gender Bias in the Legal System and Cultural Norms 123 4 Sexual Reproductive Health and Human Rights 123 5 Conclusion 125 References 126 Annex 130
