This book combines a study of NATO strategy with an extensive analysis of the interests of a single member of the alliance. This book has two main themes: the relationship, or lack thereof, between politics and strategy in the nuclear age; and the tension between the doctrines of NATO strategy and the interests of one of the leading NATO members, Germany.
