Back cover text Sonography of the gastrointestinal tract in fetuses, neonates and children entails no known biological risk, permits serial scanning and can provide information unobtainable with any other imaging modality. In experienced hands it can be used as the initial imaging technique in a number of gastrointestinal diseases and conditions. This book provides a comprehensive account of the current state of the art regarding sonography in this context. An introductory chapter compares the merits of sonography and magnetic resonance imaging of the fetal gastrointestinal tract. Subsequent chapters focus on the technique, pitfalls and findings in a wide variety of applications, including antropyloric diseases, bowel obstruction, bowel wall thickening, colitis, appendicitis, some types of intussusception, abdominal wall and umbilical abnormalities, intraperitoneal tumors, and trauma. In each case the sonographic morphology is considered in depth with the aid of high-quality illustrations. A concluding chapter comprises a quiz based on 15 case reports. __Gastrointestinal Tract Sonography in Fetuses and Children__ will be of value to all with an interest in this field.

Reviewer:Julie Sossaman, MD(Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description:This is a thorough review of disease processes in the gastrointestinal tract in neonates and children and their ultrasound findings.
Purpose:The purpose is to demonstrate the imaging potential of ultrasound in the fetus, neonate, and child. This is a worthwhile objective because ultrasound can be an underused modality for imaging the gastrointestinal tract.
Audience:General radiologists or pediatric radiologists are the target audience.
Features:The book has excellent ultrasound images of both routine and unusual cases of gastrointestinal tract pathology. Additionally, it includes images from other modalities such as plain radiography and fluoroscopy studies. One of the highlights is the repeated use of the authors' own experience in the personal study sections in which they describe the frequency with which they have encountered specific imaging findings related to diseases in their own practices. There are also excellent diagrams and tables and good quality pathology and intraoperative images.
Assessment:This high quality book offers an in-depth look at ultrasound of the gastrointestinal tract in children, detail that cannot be found elsewhere.
