In seiner Schrift De locis affectis (Über das Erkennen erkrankter Körperteile) entwickelt Galen von Pergamon eine Methode, mit deren Hilfe der erkrankte Körperteil gefunden werden kann, auch wenn er sich innerhalb des Körpers befindet und damit – in Ermangelung bildgebender Verfahren – für den antiken Arzt nicht unmittelbar erkennbar ist. Dabei werden vor allem Aktivitätsschädigungen, Ausscheidungen oder Schmerzen als Indizien für den erkrankten Körperteil herangezogen und gedeutet. Ein solches Vorgehen ist für den Arzt oft eng mit dem Therapieerfolg verknüpft, wie Galen anhand von verschiedenen Beispielen erläutert. Das vorliegende Buch bietet die erste kritische Edition dieser zentralen galenischen Schrift. Auf Grundlage aller bekannten griechischen Überlieferungsträger wurde der Text neu konstituiert, ins Deutsche übersetzt und durch einen ausführlichen Kommentar erläutert.
