معرفی کتاب «Fundamentals of Hearing, Fourth Edition: An Introduction» نوشتهٔ William A. Yost، منتشرشده توسط نشر Academic Press در سال 2000. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.

The Fourth Edition of Yost's successful introductory book on hearing, this edition updates and expands the fundamental facts about hearing. Fundamentals of Hearing is still the only non-edited book that covers sound, auditory anatomy and physiolgy, and psychoaoustics and auditory perception in one book at an introductory level. An Instructor's Workbook contains 15 chapters, one for each in the textbook. Each chapter contains 12 problems and answers, suggested tracks form the ASA Audio CD-ROM (audio examples for understanding hearing provided by the Acoustical Society of America-this CD-ROM will not be included), suggestions for class exercises, and for some chapters, example figures and graphs. The CD-ROM provided with the Instructor's Workbook contains a copy of all the figures in the textbook, as well as text files that can be loaded into any spread sheet. These files contain the basic data and plots used in the book, a toolbox of MATLAB routines (a math program of Mathworks, Inc., used by many people who study all aspects of hearing), both MATLAB and executable Windows 95 programs for a) generating sounds, b) a simulation of measuring a neural tuning curve, and c) running psychophysical experiments for discrimination and detection of tones in noise (both diotic and dichotic). Key Features * Approximately 25% new information * Contains a new chapter, The Abnormal Auditory System, which replaces the chapter on Noise * All figures redone * Instructor's Workbook and CD-ROM also available * Includes Website, with a Hearing Tutorial based on the book In its new Fourth Edition, Fundamentals of Hearing: An Introduction covers the subject of hearing from sound to sensation, including the structure and function of the auditory system. Written at an introductory level, and requiring a minimal background in math and science, Fundamentals of Hearing is intended for students in fields concerned with sensory systems, perception, the nervous system, human and animal communication, and speech and hearing sciences and disorders. Fundamentals of Hearing will also assist any professional in the field of hearing in finding key facts and data about the auditory system. The new Fourth Edition offers sixteen chapters, with 25 percent new information, covering:-- The Auditory Stimulus-- Peripheral Auditory Anatomy and Physiology-- Auditory Perception of Simple Sounds-- Complex Sound Processing-- The Central Auditory Nervous System and a new chapter, The Abnormal Auditory SystemSix appendices cover:-- Sinusoids and Trigonometry-- Logarithms-- Fourier Analysis-- Psychophysics-- Neural Anatomy and Physiology-- Techniques and Tools Used to Study Hearing Introductory text on hearing sciences includes auditory, anatomy, physiology, psychoacoustics, and perception content. It is one of only a few textbooks that covers all of hearing at an introductory level. A meaningful introduction to hearing for students and a wealth of data and facts related to hearing for the professional, it is heavily illustrated with over 200 figures. Each chapter concludes with a Supplement section with additional resources about topics covered. Appendices provide background information to enable full comprehension of content. It contains a complete Glossary of terms from the American Standards Institute, a combined subject/author index, and a comprehensive bibliography.
