French Globalization Projects

Globalisierung ist kein anonymer Prozess, der hinter dem Rücken der Akteure stattfindet. Dieser Band betrachtet die Bemühungen in Frankreich und seinem weitgespannten Empire seit dem 16. Jahrhundert, den jeweils relevanten Teil der Welt so zu erschließen und zu ordnen, wie es den jeweiligen Interessen entsprach. Diese Perspektive öffnet einen neuen Blick auf die französische Geschichte und ihre vielfältigen globalen Verflechtungen. Das französische Globalisierungsprojekt stand immer in Konkurrenz zu anderen und rang um Deutungshoheit und Machtanteile. Es konnte sich nie vollständig durchsetzen, wurde aber immer wieder an neue Bedingungen angepasst. Dies lässt sich in der Wirtschafts- und Technologiegeschichte ebenso wie in der politischen und Kolonialgeschichte sowie der Kultur- und Ideengeschichte beobachten. Das Handbuch bietet ein umfassendes Panorama zu einem der langfristigsten Globalisierungsprojekte der modernen Geschichte.
