Foundations of Chemical Biology (c Ocp t Oxford Chemistry Primers, 98)

معرفی کتاب «Foundations of Chemical Biology (c Ocp t Oxford Chemistry Primers, 98)» نوشتهٔ Dobson, C. M.; Gerrard, J. A., Pratt, A. J.، منتشرشده توسط نشر IRL Press at Oxford University Press در سال 2001. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.

This book provides a concise introduction to chemical biology for chemistry and biochemistry students. Chemical biology is born out of a desire to understand the molecular basis of life. What are the molecules found in cells? How do their intrinsic properties equip them to perform all the complex processes found in cells? This book introduces the fundamental chemistry of the molecules that are essential to all cells. The molecules covered include amino acids and sugar phosphate derivatives, and the macromolecules derived from them (proteins and nucleic acids respectively). In such a short text it is not possible to provide a comprehensive account of the chemistry of these molecules; instead this book introduces important concepts concerning their intrinsic chemistry. The aim is to provide the fundamental ideas relating to the chemistry of life that can then be applied to more advanced aspects of chemical biology. Content: Front Matter • Preface • Table of Contents 1. The Chemicals of Biological Systems 2. Introduction to Amino Acids and Proteins 3. The Structures of Proteins 4. From Structure to Metabolic Function: The Globins 5. Proteins as Catalysts 6. Sugars and Phosphates: An Introduction 7. Metabolism and the Biochemistry of Glucose 8. Lipids: Cells as Compartments 9. Genetic Information: Nucleotides and Nucleic Acids • 10. Epilogue: Where to from Here? Index

Introduces the fundamental chemistry of the molecules found in organic cells, including amino acids, sugar phosphate derivatives, proteins, and nucleic acids. The material is developed from lectures the authors delivered to undergraduate chemists and biochemists at the U. of Oxford (UK). Chapters discuss the metabolic function of the globins, proteins as catalysts, the biochemistry of glucose, lipids, and genetic information. Annotation c. The main characteristic of Reconfigurable Computing is the presence of hardware that can be reconfigured to implement specific functionality more suitable for specially tailored hardware than on a simple uniprocessor. Reconfigurable computing systems join microprocessors and programmable hardware in order to take advantage of the combined strengths of hardware and software and have been used in applications ranging from embedded systems to high performance computing. Many of the fundamental theories have been identified and used by the Hardware/Software Co-Design research field. Although the same background ideas are shared in both areas, they have different goals and use different approaches. This book is intended as an introduction to the entire range of issues important to reconfigurable computing, using FPGAs as the context, or computing vehicles to implement this powerful technology. It will take a reader with a background in the basics of digital design and software programming and provide them with the knowledge needed to be an effective designer or researcher in this rapidly evolving field. Treatment of FPGAs as computing vehicles rather than glue-logic or ASIC substitutes Views of FPGA programming beyond Verilog/VHDL Broad set of case studies demonstrating how to use FPGAs in novel and efficient ways Reconfigurable Computing marks a revolutionary and hot topic that bridges the gap between the separate worlds of hardware and software design— the key feature of reconfigurable computing is its groundbreaking ability to perform computations in hardware to increase performance while retaining the flexibility of a software solution. Reconfigurable computers serve as affordable, fast, and accurate tools for developing designs ranging from single chip architectures to multi-chip and embedded systems.

Scott Hauck and Andre DeHon have assembled a group of the key experts in the fields of both hardware and software computing to provide an introduction to the entire range of issues relating to reconfigurable computing. FPGAs (field programmable gate arrays) act as the “computing vehicles” to implement this powerful technology. Readers will be guided into adopting a completely new way of handling existing design concerns and be able to make use of the vast opportunities possible with reconfigurable logic in this rapidly evolving field.

• Designed for both hardware and software programmers
• Views of reconfigurable programming beyond standard programming languages
• Broad set of case studies demonstrating how to use FPGAs in novel and efficient ways "Chemical Biology is a subject born out of a desire to understand the molecular basis of life. This book introduces the fundamental chemistry of the molecules that are essential to all cells. The molecules covered include amino acids and sugar phosphate derivatives, and the macromolecules derived from them (proteins and nucleic acids respectively), and the phospholipids and their derivatives that form the basis of biological membranes. Important concepts concerning the intrinsic chemistry of these molecules are presented, providing the fundamental ideas relating to the chemistry of life that can be applied to more advanced aspects of chemical biology."--BOOK JACKET.
