This book is the first of three on fish diseases and disorders. This volume provides a comprehensive review of the major diseases of fish caused by protozoan and metazoan parasites. Written by leading international authorities, it is aimed at zoologists and veterinary parasitologists, as well as those concerned with practical aquaculture and fish farming. Two further volumes (on viral, bacterial and fungal infections, and on non-infectious disorders) are planned for publication in 1996.
Part of a three-volume series, this collection focuses largely on finfish and considers non-infectious disorders of development, growth, and physiology in wild and captive species. Topics include tumourigenesis, stress physiology and the effects of stressors on particular processes, and the effect of environmental factors (including toxic substances) on fish health. It features a chapter on the economic implications of non-infectious disorders in intensive aquaculture and concludes with a chapter on evaluation methods for the assessment of disorders at the individual, population and community level.
