International contributors in reprinted papers from 1955-1996 overview the European impact in America and Africa (ten chapters), and the European impact on Asia prior to 1800 (nine chapters). Reflecting the series' revisionist rejoinder to a narrow, exploitative Eurocentric focus, this volume seeks to compensate by bringing to the fore the cross-cultural collaborative dimension of the European activities.
