EU Emergency Response Policies and NGOs: Trends and Innovations (The European Union in International Affairs)
معرفی کتاب «EU Emergency Response Policies and NGOs: Trends and Innovations (The European Union in International Affairs)» نوشتهٔ Daniela Irrera (auth.)، منتشرشده توسط نشر Palgrave Macmillan published by Springer Nature در سال 2018. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
This book analyses trends and changes in the European Union?s (EU) humanitarian aid policy, by focusing on the performance of Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs). NGOs have developed strong relationships with international institutions but have also maintained direct interaction with EU member states. The result is a multi-layered process in which national interests, common values, universal principles and global duties meet and interact. By combining a deepening of the theoretical debate with the use of empirical data on the funding of NGO projects by EU institutions and member states, the book significantly furthers our understanding of the complex relationship between these actors. It will appeal to students and scholars interested in EU politics, global security, and international aid, as well as practitioners in the humanitarian field.#xE000 Acknowledgements 7 Contents 10 List of Abbreviations 11 List of Figures and Tables 13 Chapter 1: Introduction: EU Emergency Response Policies and NGOs—Why It Matters 14 1.1 Rationale of the Book 16 1.2 Structure of the Book 17 Chapter 2: The Humanitarian System, the EU, and NGOs: The State of the Art 20 2.1 The Purpose of Studying the Role of NGOs in Humanitarian Action 20 2.2 NGOs and the Humanitarian System 22 2.3 The Need for a Comprehensive Humanitarian Aid Policy: The Role of ECHO 28 2.4 Critical Actors in a Critical Policy Field 34 References 36 Chapter 3: The EU Humanitarian Aid Policy and NGOs: A Theoretical Overview 40 3.1 Explaining the Humanitarian System: Theoretical Reflections 41 3.1.1 Tackling the Complexity: From Traditional Humanitarianism to Transboundary Crises 42 3.1.2 Tackling the Complexity: The Management of Transboundary Crisis 45 3.1.3 Tackling the Complexity: Roles for NGOs 47 3.2 The EU Humanitarian Aid Policy: Managing the Complexity 50 3.3 NGOs as Implementing Actors: From Theoretical Puzzles to the Empirical Analysis 53 References 54 Chapter 4: NGOs, ECHO, and Member States: An Empirical Analysis 58 4.1 ECHO, Member States, and NGOs: A Complex Triangle 59 4.2 ECHO and Member States 61 4.3 Member States and NGOs 64 References 72 Chapter 5: Conclusions: The EU Humanitarian Aid Policy in the Age of Change 73 Appendix 79 Index 83 Annotation This text analyses trends and changes in the European Union's (EU) humanitarian aid policy, by focusing on the performance of Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs).
