[a Cura Di] Graziella Merlatti. Etty Hillesum (1914-1943), Jewish Intellectual From The Netherlands Who Died In A Concentration Camp In Auschwitz. Includes Bibliographical References. A biography of Hillesum (1914-1943), based on the diaries and letters she wrote between 1941-43. Born to a family of assimilated intellectuals, she grew up in Amsterdam. In 1941 she volunteered to work as a social worker for the Jewish Council in Amsterdam, and in 1942 in the internment camp of Westerbork. In 1943 her family was deported to Westerbork, and from there to Auschwitz. Hillesum's writings contain descriptions of life in Amsterdam and in Westerbork.
