Focusing on variation and genre styles within the empirical framework, the five studies included in this volume aim to provide insights into: the development of verb constructions with "be" and "have"; expository apposition: and genre-specific features of expressions of affect and attitude in text. The last two decades have seen a rapid increase and methodological development in the studies of variation in language.
