Annotation This publication is part of a series which examines energy policy and market trends in IEA member countries. This review of French energy policy finds that, having been traditionally characterised by centralisation and strong government involvement, it has been largely successful in achieving energy security, environmental protection and economic efficiency. However, the country now needs to adapt to a changing European energy market, in which competition and internationalisation will become increasingly important.
