Giesy Risk to Pollinators from the Use of Chlorpyrifos in North America G. Christopher Cutler, John Purdy, John P. Giesy, and Keith R. Solomon Index Some European lands have been progressively alleviated of human pressures, particularly traditional agriculture in remote areas. This book proposes that this land abandonment can be seen as an opportunity to restore natural ecosystems via rewilding. We define rewilding as the passive management of ecological successions having in mind the long-term goal of restoring natural ecosystem processes. The book aims at introducing the concept of rewilding to scientists, students and practitioners. The first part presents the theory of rewilding in the European context. The second part of the book directly addresses the link between rewilding, biodiversity, and habitats. The third and last part is dedicated to practical aspects of the implementation of rewilding as a land management option. We believe that this book will both set the basis for future research on rewilding and help practitioners think about how rewilding can take place in areas under their management Front Matter....Pages i-xvi Ecological Risk Assessment of the Uses of the Organophosphorus Insecticide Chlorpyrifos, in the United States....Pages 1-11 Properties and Uses of Chlorpyrifos in the United States....Pages 13-34 Fate in the Environment and Long-Range Atmospheric Transport of the Organophosphorus Insecticide, Chlorpyrifos and Its Oxon....Pages 35-76 Exposures of Aquatic Organisms to the Organophosphorus Insecticide, Chlorpyrifos Resulting from Use in the United States....Pages 77-117 Risks to Aquatic Organisms from Use of Chlorpyrifos in the United States....Pages 119-162 Refined Avian Risk Assessment for Chlorpyrifos in the United States....Pages 163-217 Risk to Pollinators from the Use of Chlorpyrifos in the United States....Pages 219-265 Back Matter....Pages 267-269 This book attempts to provide concise, critical reviews of timely advances, philosophy and significant areas of accomplished or needed endeavor in the total field of xenobiotics, in any segment of the environment, as well as toxicological implications Nature Conservation; Environmental Management; Biodiversity; Landscape Ecology; Applied Ecology
