Lance Bradley, idling his life away in the little Somerset town of Glastonbury, suddenly recieves a call for help from the eccentric sister of his old friend Rupert Alder. Rupe appears to have vanished without trace. Rwluctantly, Lance goes to London, to discover that Rupe's employers want him tried for fraud. He worked as an educational administrator in Devon before becoming a full-time novelist. Lance Bradley's old friend Rupert Alder has vanished, leaving a trail of chaos behind him. Lance decides it's too risky to get involved but, finding he is already involved, soon realises the only way out is to get in deeper still.
