Description:This is part of the Diagnostic Imaging series, and follows the outline form with many differential diagnoses on fetal and perinatal imaging. It is comprehensive and high-yield.
Purpose:The purpose of this book is to deliver a highly structured, information dense textbook with ample images put together by a well qualified multidisciplinary team on OB ultrasound. These are worthy objective and they are completely met.
Audience:This book is written for anyone who has an interest in obstetrical imaging according to my judgment. This included radiology residents, practicing radiologists, sonographers, OB/GYNS and even geneticists. The author is a very credible authority on this subject.
Features:This book covers obstetrical imaging from first trimester to delivery. It details fetal anomalies from central nervous system to musculoskeletal system. There are also sections on syndromes, infections, and miscellaneous issues which arise in the obstetrical patient. The best thing about this book is the concise format with ample images and a broad, but directed, differential diagnosis. A shortcoming of the book is its index system (which all diagnostic imaging series books use). It is rather cumbersome, in my opinion. Some of the images are too small to be very helpful. The price also makes the book a bit inaccessible to many in training.
Assessment:This is a wonderful comprehensive book of obstetrical imaging. It goes beyond being a wonderful resource to being clinically useful and memorable with its simple style and ample images. I know of no other book which compares to this. The Case Review Series is most similar in format, but they are not nearly as comprehensive and the images and differential diagnosis provided in this Diagnostic Imaging-Obstetrics book are much better.
