When making a diagnosis it is of paramount importance that the ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist views the lesion and recognizes its pathology. Significant technological advances have enabled diseases to be imaged and documented. Using these images, this book targets beginners (residents, general practitioners, nurses, and students) as well as experts who would like to improve and teach their skills. It provides specialists with an unprecedented opportunity to use unique pictures and schematic drawings as part of their presentations. A DVD with all illustrations is included for teaching purposes.

Description:This is a collection of images pertinent to the diagnosis of otolaryngologic diseases.
Purpose:According to the author, the purpose is to provide images that will aid in the diagnosis of otolaryngologic diseases. The author feels that these illustrations also will help students and trainees to retain information.
Audience:The audience includes medical students, family and general practitioners, and ENT trainees.
Features:The book includes a good representation of various otolaryngologic diseases. Some topics are very well covered; for example, a comprehensive collection of photographs illustrates different otologic diseases that can be diagnosed via otoscopy. One of the shortcomings, however, is that many of the photographs show advanced stages of the diseases, when it is of more value to be able to recognize a disease in its beginning stages. Radiographic images are often juxtaposed with the photograph of the disease, which is a great visual aid, showing the correlations between the radiographic findings and the physical examination findings.
Assessment:This is one of the most comprehensive collections of photographs and illustrations for otolaryngologic diseases. It does not include a lot of text or information which can be found in traditional textbooks, but it is not meant to be a stand-alone resource. Rather, it is meant to be a complementary aid for students' or trainees' study in otolaryngology and a reference for general practitioners.
