Danger at the Drawbridge (Penny Parker #3): The Penny Parker Mysteries

Penny Parker starred in a series of 17 books written by Mildred A. Wirt Benson and published from 1939 through 1947. Penny was a high school sleuth who also occasionally moonlighted as a reporter for her father's newspaper. Benson favored Penny Parker over all the other books she wrote, including Nancy Drew. "I always thought Penny Parker was a better Nancy Drew than Nancy is," Mrs. Benson said in 1993. When the newspaper's society editor becomes ill, Penny gets to cover a society wedding at a mysterious old estate which is surrounded by a moat. Penny discovers quite a mystery when the groom fails to show up for the wedding. Penny also learns about a missing tax evader and searches for both men at the same time. Penny solves the mysteries and earns another scoop for the Riverview Star.
