Criminology, deviance, and the silver screen : the fictional reality and the criminological ... imagination

معرفی کتاب «Criminology, deviance, and the silver screen : the fictional reality and the criminological ... imagination» نوشتهٔ Jon Frauley (auth.)، منتشرشده توسط نشر Palgrave Macmillan US در سال 2010. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.

This text argues for the usefulness of fictional realities for criminological theorizing and analysis. It illustrates that a creative and critical social scientific practice requires craft norms rather than commercial norms that threaten to completely colonize higher education. Works of fiction offer complex and layered social realities that can be deconstructed and creatively theorized through the analytic languages of criminology and sociology. Frauley argues for the usefulness of fictional realities for criminological theorizing and analysis and argues for a "craft-enterprise" approach to theoretic practice. In developing this argument he outlines the conceptual system, methodology, and social ontology of the "criminological imagination". This provides the basis for investigating some major concepts of prominent and influential theoretical frameworks, resulting in several original interpretations of cinematic narratives. In addition to illustrating theoretic analysis, Frauley provides for the bridging of theory and application and offers an innovative and interesting context in which to engage readers in the exploration of criminological theory and theorizing Front Matter....Pages i-xii Remarks on Conceptualizing, Analytic Languages, and the Disciplined Imagination....Pages 1-29 Criminology and the Fictional Social Reality....Pages 31-72 The Criminological Imagination....Pages 73-97 Moral Transcendence and Symbolic Interaction in Falling Down....Pages 99-121 Subculture and American History X....Pages 123-155 Pathology, Power, and Medicalization in K-PAX....Pages 157-193 Biopolitics and the Governance of Genetic Capital in GATTACA....Pages 195-216 Back Matter....Pages 217-249 Machine generated contents note: Introductory Remarks - Films, Themes, and Premises * Theory, Theorizing, and Fictional Realities * The Criminological Imagination * Pathology, Power, and Medicalization in K-PAX and Happiness * Moral Transcendence and Symbolic Interaction in Falling Down * Subculture, Control, and American History X * Power Crime and the Culture of Enterprise in American Psycho and Thank You for Smoking * Bio-politics and Stigma Management in GATTACA
