This is Volume II in a series of eighteen on Public Policy, Welfare and Social Work. Originally published in 1998, part one of creative demobilisation looks at the principles of national planning. The book attempts to lay down principles of planning on a national scale. It is not concerned with the working out of details which belong rather to the sphere of regional and local planning. Planning has become the catchword of our age: not merely, one suspects, because it is a necessity inherent in our historical situation, but also because it offers for many people a welcome escape from the ambiguities of political action. First Published in 1998. The following memoranda deal with some selected case studies of national planning and express the personal opinions of their authors. They should be considered as an essential interpretation or illustration of the approach to national planning. This title considers human geography, agriculture, industry, decentralisation and dispersal and concludes with maps. Valuable material, in this respect, can be found in American publications and especially in the Report of the National Resources Committee. The International Library of Sociology (ILS) is the most important series of books on sociology ever published. Founded in the 1940s by Karl Mannheim, the series became the forum for pioneering research and theory, marked by comparative approaches and analysis of new disciplines, such as the sociology of youth and culture. Spanning volumes by Parsons, Dickinson and Ossowski, the history of the ILS is the history of modern sociology. Young people are educable. Young people are worth educating. Upon their wise handling depend the issues of ultimate harmonyor conflict in the home, in workshop or factory, and among thenations. Many current methods of treatment find, however, theirjustification only in the somewhat mythical descriptions of pastcenturies. For most of these there is little support in the morecareful studies of recent years Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork This set considers the policy and planning implications of attempts to respond to and meet social needs by the Church, Civil Service, Industry and Voluntary Organizations, and includes classic works by Penelope Hall and Peter Nokes.
