This trilogy takes Dorian Hawkmoon from the remarkable but recognisable fantasy of The History of the Runestaff off into a world of time and dimensional travel, inconsistencies of the time line, multiple identities and the Champion Eternal. In so doing Moorcock probably sheds a majority of his readers who came looking for a bit more Runestaff. But he kindly increases the level of flux gently throughout each volume of the trilogy.
