The Eighth Congress of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament was held from 18 to 23 August 1974 under the Presidency of the Rev. G. W. Anderson, D.D., Theol. D., F.B.A., Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament Studies at the University of Edinburgh. The present volume includes all the papers that were read by invitation except Professor E. G. Clarke's on 'Jacob's dream at Bethel as interpreted in the Targums and the New Testament', which, it had already been arranged, was to appear in Studies in Religion, IV.4 (1974-5). G. W.
