Description:The 19 chapters in this general ophthalmology color atlas and reference encompass all subspecialties within ophthalmology, describing and illustrating the presentation, differential diagnosis, and management of common disorders.
Purpose:The purpose is to present easily accessible information to ophthalmologists faced with a full range of disorders. It is designed such that information is manageable and digestible for trainees and practitioners alike. The authors use concise descriptions of common disorders, and present an abundance of relevant color illustrations.
Audience:This book is designed to be useful for trainees who are learning new topics or reviewing for examinations. Additionally, it may be useful to fully trained ophthalmologists looking to review a certain topic. Given its concise nature and the goal of including a comprehensive range of topics, it is not quite as useful for senior ophthalmologists looking for in-depth coverage of disease states. The editors are prolific authors, and the chapters are written by well-known specialists within each field.
Features:In addition to the full spectrum of ophthalmologic subspecialties, the book has sections on ocular trauma, pharmacology, systemic disease, instrumentation, and procedures. It is successful in fulfilling its goal of describing common ophthalmic diseases with comprehensive and clear color illustrations, offering excellent differential diagnoses, and presenting typical management pearls.
Assessment:This book will prove quite useful to ophthalmologists who are looking for an easy to use manual to aid in diagnosing and managing patients with common ophthalmologic disorders. It also will be an excellent preparation tool for reviewing for board examinations. The second edition includes new color illustrations and updated information for each of the 19 chapters, and is certainly a high quality resource for any ophthalmology student, resident, or practitioner who requires instant information on a wide range of topics.
