معرفی کتاب «Cohesion in English (English language series ; no. 9)» نوشتهٔ Siggy Shade و Michael Alexander Kirkwood Halliday, Ruqaiya Hasan، منتشرشده توسط نشر Addison-wesley Longman Ltd در سال 1976. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
Cohesion in English is concerned with a relatively neglected part of the linguistic system: its resources for text construction, the range of meanings that are speciffically associated with relating what is being spoken or written to its semantic environment. A principal component of these resources is 'cohesion'. This book studies the cohesion that arises from semantic relations between sentences. Reference from one to the other, repetition of word meanings, the conjunctive force of but, so, then and the like are considered. Further, it describes a method for analysing and coding sentences, which is applied to specimen texts. In an article titled "Six top grammar reads" by Mark Brenchley & Ian Cushing for tes.com (6/18/18), the authors state: ""Cohesion" is perhaps the most important linguistic concept there is, essentially comprising how the linguistic features of a piece of writing combine to make it what it is: a unified orchestration of meaning. Originally published in 1976, Halliday and Hasan's groundbreaking work remains the standard textbook for this topic. Put simply, it is jam-packed with detailed, concrete discussions of all the different resources English has for making sure each piece of writing hangs together."
