Annotation Covering a range of North American and European cities, but focusing on Belfast's social, economic and political developments, this collection considers the role of long-term urban planning in the development of cities. In Belfast these general Western urban characteristics are extended and heightened by association with a long-standing political crisis and low-intensity conflict. Covering a range of North American and European cities, but focusing on Belfast's social, economic and political developments, this collection considers the role of long-term urban planning in the development of cities. Nothing is fair in the urban centers of the West: the inhabitants of the cities are divided by a number of social issues, development is uneven, and the job market is inconstant at best.

Similar conditions in Belfast, Ireland are intensified by political crisis and armed conflict. Covering a range of North American and European cities, but focusing on Belfast's social, economic and political developments, this collection considers the role of long-term urban planning in the development of cities.

The authors integrate English and American debates, summarize theories on the present state of cities and their future, and consider an assortment of interventions and delivery mechanisms.

The aim of this significant study is to offer a critique which will guide policy makers in urban regeneration.
