Finally, the volume looks to the future and provides prospects for inter-civilizational understanding, rapprochement, and global cooperation. This will be of great interest to academics and students of sociology, social anthropology, political science and international relations, economics, social policy, social history, as well as to policy makers. The adjective global has come to be an omnipresent ingredient of contemporary politics discourses. There is hardly anything these days that is not attributed with this adjective in one context or another. Most recently, in the context of the Brexit-debate, "Britain" has been relaunched by UK Prime Minister May as "global Britain". This chapter engages with the adjective global. It argues that the omnipresence of the adjective global is not just a linguistic curiosity, nor is it "simply" a symbolic manifestation of a "global" consciousness. Rather, the widespread use of global is a political phenomenon. It constitutes the discursive reproduction of a web of meanings that is best labelled "new world". As such, the use of the adjective global demands critical scrutiny from political analysts. The aim of the chapter is twofold. First, it outlines this theoretical argument. Second, it discusses the politics of the adjective global in UK Prime Minister Theresa May's post-Brexit use of the term 'global Britain' This volume offers a representation of the diversity of different theoretical and methodological approaches to globalization. It discusses the major facets of globalization: cultural, economic, and political globalization, including an analysis of underdevelopment, anti-globalization movements, global poverty, global inequality and the current debate about international trade versus protectionism. By offering perspectives from the Global North and the Global South, as well as the inclusion of contributions in economic sociology, international relations, political science and public policy, this volume presents a contemporary and interdisciplinary analysis of globalization and related issues such as Brexit and the election of Donald Trump. This volume is of great interest to academics, students, as well as policy makers in the field of globalization studies
