C-47/R4D Skytrain Units of the Pacific and CBI КНИГИ ;ВОЕННАЯ ИСТОРИЯ C-47/R4D Skytrain Units of the Pacific and CBI (Combat Aircraft 66)ByDavid C. IsbyPublisher: Os Publishing200796 PagesISBN: 1846030463 PDF15 MBFrom Pearl Harbor to VJ-Day, the humble Douglas C-47/R4D carried out missions every bit as strategically important, and as dramatic for the aircrew involved, as those of the fighters and bombers in the vast Pacific/CBI theatres. The C-47's wartime operations paved the way for post-war military and civil air transport, proving that aircraft could safely conduct routine flights from the USA, Australia and India throughout the Pacific and South-east Asia. The flights also demonstrated how the USAAF was able to invest in, and carry out, a mission that it had barely prepared for in terms of doctrine pre-war. In addition to linking theatres, the C-47 found itself in the vanguard of combat operations on virtually a daily basis in New Guinea, Burma, the Philippines, the SWPA and China. The importance of these missions, and the dangers faced by crews tasked with carrying them out, is chronicled in numerous first-hand accounts from the aircrew involved in this unique volume on the Allies' favourite transport aircraft of World War 2.UploadingDepositfiles 0 scan0001.jpg......Page 1 scan0002.jpg......Page 2 scan0003.jpg......Page 3 scan0004.jpg......Page 4 scan0005.jpg......Page 5 scan0006.jpg......Page 6 scan0007.jpg......Page 7 scan0008.jpg......Page 8 scan0009.jpg......Page 9 scan0010.jpg......Page 10 scan0011.jpg......Page 11 scan0012.jpg......Page 12 scan0013.jpg......Page 13 scan0014.jpg......Page 14 scan0015.jpg......Page 15 scan0016.jpg......Page 16 scan0017.jpg......Page 17 scan0018.jpg......Page 18 scan0019.jpg......Page 19 scan0020.jpg......Page 20 scan0021.jpg......Page 21 scan0022.jpg......Page 22 scan0023.jpg......Page 23 scan0024.jpg......Page 24 scan0025.jpg......Page 25 scan0026.jpg......Page 26 scan0027.jpg......Page 27 scan0028.jpg......Page 28 scan0029.jpg......Page 29 scan0030.jpg......Page 30 scan0031.jpg......Page 31 scan0032.jpg......Page 32 scan0033.jpg......Page 33 scan0034.jpg......Page 34 scan0035.jpg......Page 35 scan0036.jpg......Page 36 scan0037.jpg......Page 37 scan0038.jpg......Page 38 scan0040.jpg......Page 39 scan0041.jpg......Page 40 scan0042.jpg......Page 41 scan0043.jpg......Page 42 scan0044.jpg......Page 43 scan0045.jpg......Page 44 scan0046.jpg......Page 45 scan0047.jpg......Page 46 scan0048.jpg......Page 47 scan0049.jpg......Page 48 scan0050.jpg......Page 49 scan0051.jpg......Page 50 scan0052.jpg......Page 51 scan0053.jpg......Page 52 scan0054.jpg......Page 53 scan0055.jpg......Page 0 scan0056.jpg......Page 54 scan0057.jpg......Page 55 scan0058.jpg......Page 56 scan0059.jpg......Page 57 scan0060.jpg......Page 58 scan0061.jpg......Page 59 scan0062.jpg......Page 60 scan0063.jpg......Page 61 scan0064.jpg......Page 62 scan0065.jpg......Page 63 scan0066.jpg......Page 64 scan0067.jpg......Page 65 scan0068.jpg......Page 66 scan0069.jpg......Page 67 scan0070.jpg......Page 68 scan0071.jpg......Page 69 scan0072.jpg......Page 70 scan0073.jpg......Page 71 scan0074.jpg......Page 72 scan0075.jpg......Page 73 scan0076.jpg......Page 74 scan0077.jpg......Page 75 scan0078.jpg......Page 76 scan0079.jpg......Page 77 scan0080.jpg......Page 78 scan0081.jpg......Page 79 scan0082.jpg......Page 80 scan0083.jpg......Page 81 scan0084.jpg......Page 82 scan0085.jpg......Page 83 scan0086.jpg......Page 84 scan0087.jpg......Page 85 scan0088.jpg......Page 86 scan0089.jpg......Page 87 scan0090.jpg......Page 88 scan0091.jpg......Page 89 scan0092.jpg......Page 90 scan0093.jpg......Page 91 scan0094.jpg......Page 92 scan0095.jpg......Page 93 scan0096.jpg......Page 94 scan0097.jpg......Page 95 scan0098.jpg......Page 96 scan0099.jpg......Page 97 scan0100.jpg......Page 98 scan0101.jpg......Page 99 scan0102.jpg......Page 100
C-47 is an aircraft that remains a popular favourite and an acknowledged classic design, carrying out missions every bit as strategically important and as dramatic for the aircrew as those of the fighters and bombers. The C-47's wartime operations paved the way for post-war military air transport. It also demonstrated how the USAAF was able to invest in and carry out a mission that it had not devoted much time to preparing for in terms of pre-war doctrine (in contrast to strategic bombing). In addition to linking theatres (by flying across 'the Hump'), it showed how vital it was to operations within a theatre like New Guinea. Even if massed airborne invasions were not carried out in the PTO/CBI, all air arms need transports like the C-47.
