This collection of essays deals primarily with the Byzantine area of Romania from the 10th to the 15th century. Several of the essays are concerned with the Empire in general or, more specifically, with its capital, Asia Minor or Crete. Other essays explore the Byzantine territories conquered by the Latins in the early 13th century and articles also provide information on, and insights into Romania's relations with the West, the crusader states, and Egypt.
