New York: W.W. Norton & Co., 1943. - 215 pgs. Seagrave was a medical missionary in Burma before World War II. The book begins with stories from his decades in the hill districts of northern Burma. It concludes with the Japanese invasion in 1941 when he became a lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He and his Kachin nurses set up a military hospital and ended up running a surgery unit as the British and Chinese retreated from the Japanese advance.
