Pur restando la parrocchia un interesse laterale del Vaticano II, grazie all'impulso di questo essa è venuta trasformandosi da istituzione amministrativa a figura pastorale, soggetto missionario attivo, non con un formale ripensamento della sua presenza e della sua azione, ma piuttosto mediante la ridefinizione dei suoi elementi vitali e della fisionomia dei suoi protagonisti. A cinquant'anni dall'indizione del concilio la parrocchia appare ancora un soggetto debole, segnato da un deficit di riflessione teologica non compensato dalla recente attenzione pratica, dovuta alla ristrutturazione della presenza ecclesiale sul territorio. Ma questa identità debole potrebbe oggi costituire uno dei suoi punti di forza, a patto che la logica amministrativa sia abbandonata a favore dello spazio di esercizio della comunione.
