However as Roman Ingarden pointed out to me in a letter four weeks before his death, this matters chiefly for the sake of the progress of the original work itself. Indeed it is towards this aim that all the scholarly work and reflection have to be devoted. In this 'back to the source' perspective a great need is felt for an international forum allowing communication of phenomenological research in progress among scholars. The demand for specialized scholarly contacts at regular intervals which would overcome the barriers of languages and geographical dispersion has found a positive response in the foundation in April 1969 during the International Phenomenological Conference at Waterloo, Ontario of The International Husserl and Phenomenological Research SOciety, which encouraged by the Waterloo exchange will meet every second year in different countries of both continents. However, the phenomenological research remains scattered in different periodicals, in different languages, difficult to trace. Each periodical imposing its policy, conditions and limits upon the style of presentation, length of paper etc. hampers the essential research value and its communication. Phenomenological research in its actual turn calls, on the contrary, for and seems to contain the promise of a fundamental nucleus of research and a community of minds to emerge. The reviving of Husserl's own Jahrbuch in the present Analecta Husserliana, The Yearbook for Phenomenological Research, which will appear periodically with essays in three languages (English, French and German), allowing for an essay length up to 100 pages is devised to fill this need and serve this purpose. Avoiding any doctrinary claim or policy it is open to all competent, specialized phenomenological inquiry, which can be basically traced by its relation to its source in Husserl. May it contribute towards establishing a second phase of fundamental continuity of work in the field of phenomenology!
