An Atlas of Local Group Galaxies (Astrophysics and Space Science Library Book 221)
معرفی کتاب «An Atlas of Local Group Galaxies (Astrophysics and Space Science Library Book 221)» نوشتهٔ by Paul W. Hodge, Brooke P. Skelton, and Joy Ashizawa، منتشرشده توسط نشر Springer London در سال 2002. این کتاب در 20 صفحه، فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
A very serious error was made in an earlier review of this book by amateur astronomer Roger Raurbach. He stated that four of the five globular clusters of the Fornax dwarf galaxy were misidentified in the Atlas. That is incorrect. The three inner clusters were discovered by Harlow Shapley, Walter Baade and Edwin Hubble and I discovered the two outer clusters; their identities, as shown in the Atlas, were published in the Astronomical Journal, volume 66, page 8, 1961. Their positions are well-known to professional astronomers and several papers, including some based on Hubble Space Telescope images, have been published recently, covering both color-magnitude diagrams of the clusters' stars and spectroscopy, giving their metallicities. Please discount my rating of this book, which is meaningless, as I am an author. This Atlas Provides A Complete Set Of Images Of Local Group Galaxies (excluding The Three For Which Identification Atlases Are Already In Print) And Shows The Most Important Objects, Including Many Thousands Of Individual Stars And Interstellar Objects. It Is Unique In Its Coverage And Format And Provides A Source Of These Fundamental Data That Will Be Used For Many Years. Researchers, Students And Even Amateur Astronomers Will Be Able To Use The Atlas To Identify And Study The Various Components Of The Nearly 30 Important Galaxies Covered By The Atlas. The Objects Identified On The More Than 200 Charts Include Variable Stars, Globular Star Clusters, Open Star Clusters, Stellar Associations, Emission Regions, Supernova Remnants, Planetary Nebulae And Dust Clouds. Each Galaxy Is Accompanied By An Extensive Bibliography. The Charts -- Pt. I. The Atlas Of M33 -- Pt. Ii. The Atlas Of Dwarf Galaxies In The Local Group -- Pt. Iii. Charts Of Four Additional Local Group Members. By Paul W. Hodge, Brooke P. Skelton And Joy Ashizawa. Includes Bibliographical References.
