معرفی کتاب «An Atlas of Differential Diagnosis in HIV Disease (Encyclopedia of Visual Medicine Series)» نوشتهٔ Marc C. I. Lipman, Robert W. Baker, Margaret A. Johnson، منتشرشده توسط نشر CRC Press LLC در سال 2003. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
In the almost ten years since the publication of the first edition of An Atlas of Differential Diagnosis in HIV Disease, there have been significant developments in clinical HIV care. The growth of AIDS in the developing world is continuing at an alarming rate, the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy has presented new complications, and the increased longevity of HIV-infected patients has changed the issues involved in long-term HIV management. Completely revised to reflect these changes and incorporating new clinical information, this second edition includes:- Increased coverage of new and re-emerging diseases such as tuberculosis, tumors, and more esoteric diseases - Discussions of drug-related side-effects such as the hyperlipidemias produced by antiretroviral drugs - The different categories of antiretroviral drug therapy, such as nuceleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, non-nucleosides, and protease inhibitors - Updates infections and fungal diseases of the skin and the side-effects of drug interactions - Revised presentation of Pneumocystis, lung tumors, and lymphocytic interstitial pneumoniaSuccinct explanations combined with copious illustrations make this an essential resource for the care and management of HIV patients.
Lipman along with R.W. Baker and M.A. Johnson (Royal Free Hospital, London), provide an overview of HIV epidemiology, classification, risk and prevention, immunology, testing, and seroconversion, followed by sections on skin disease; respiratory disease; gastrointestinal disease; endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal and renal disease; neurological disease; ocular disease; malignant disease; and HAART-related disease. Each section begins with an introduction, and each image is accompanied by a concise and informative caption. Images include color photographs, endoscopic images, MRI and CT scans, histograms and retina scans. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Description:This pictorial atlas illustrates system specific complications of HIV disease and its therapy. The collection of photographs is well organized and each chapter is preceded by a good clinical summary. In this second edition, the authors have expanded the overview chapter to include sections on HIV pathogenesis, and added a chapter on HAART associated complications.
Purpose:The illustrations make this a useful clinical reference manual, and the text provides a good basic overview of HIV and its clinical manifestations. This is especially useful as a teaching resource.
Audience:The atlas is aimed at students and practitioners of HIV medicine. The authors and most of the contributors are from the Royal Free Hospital, London, which is one of the leading British HIV research and care institutions.
Features:The atlas is clearly laid out, which makes it easy to use as a reference, especially for clinical providers. There is a particularly good section on ophthalmology. The authors do a good job of illustrating the clinical effects of HIV therapy, but the book lacks significant representation of photographs from developing countries.
Assessment:This is a good atlas of clinical manifestations of HIV disease and antiretroviral therapy. The authors provide a thorough overview of the subject, but the book would be enhanced with more clinical material describing HIV manifestations in patients from developing countries.
