Compound of Alchemy, by George Ripley George Ripley was born in England and studied science, alchemy, and religion. He spent part of his life in Rome, and returned to England with the secret of transmutation. This work was one of the most popular books on Alchemy during the middle ages. It was first printed in London in 1591, having circulated widely in manuscript form for many years. It is said to contain the best on how to make the Philosopher's Stone, the "potable" Gold.
