معرفی کتاب «Afro-Latinx Digital Connections (Reframing Media, Technology, and Culture in Latin/o America)» نوشتهٔ Eduard Arriaga (editor), Andres Villar (editor)، منتشرشده توسط نشر University of Florida Press در سال 2021. این کتاب در فرمت pdf، زبان انگلیسی ارائه شده است.
This volume presents examples of how digital technologies arebeing used by people of African descent in South America and theCaribbean, a topic that has been overlooked within the field ofdigital humanities. These case studies show that in the last fewdecades, Black Latinx communities have been making themselvesvisible and asserting long-standing claims and rights throughdigital tools and platforms, which have been essential for enactingdiscussions and creating new connections between diversegroups.
Afro-Latinx Digital Connections includes both researcharticles and interviews with practitioners who are working tocreate opportunities for marginalized communities. Projectsdiscussed in this volume range from an Afrodescendant digitalarchive in Argentina, blog networks in Cuba, an NGO dedicated todemocratizing technology in Brazilian favelas, and the recruitmentof digital media to fight racism in Peru. Contributors demonstratethat these tools need not be state of the art to be effective andthat they are often most useful when employed to sustain aresilience that is deep and historically grounded.
Digital connections are shown here as a means to achieve socialjustice and to create complex self-representations that challengeracist images of Afrodescendant peoples and monolithic conceptionsof humanity. This volume expands the scope of digital humanitiesand challenges views of the field as a predominantly whitediscipline.
