Annotation Neurorehabilitation together with functional neurosurgery are steadily growing fields, with new advances and technologies including: selective interruption of various neural circuits, stimulation of the cerebral cortex, deep brain structures, spinal cord and peripheral nerves with implantable stimulation systems, and cell transplantation as well as nerve grafting. Recent advances in neuroimaging techniques have also begun to demonstrate the involvement of extensive functional and structural reorganization of neural networks within the brain. In order to encapsulate such concepts, the fourth official scientific meeting of the Neurorehabilitation and Reconstructive Neurosurgery Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) was held in Seoul. This volume is the fourth in a new series of proceedings covering the most important advancements in this field Front Matter....Pages I-IX Front Matter....Pages 1-1 Early rehabilitation of higher cortical brain functioning in neurosurgery, humanizing the restoration of human skills after acute brain lesions....Pages 3-10 Front Matter....Pages 11-11 Deep brain stimulation as a functional scalpel....Pages 13-19 Feed-forward control of post-stroke movement disorders by on-demand type stimulation of the thalamus and motor cortex....Pages 21-23 Pallidal high-frequency deep brain stimulation for camptocormia: an experience of three cases....Pages 25-28 Multimodal neurosurgical strategies for the management of dystonias....Pages 29-31 Detection of boundaries of subthalamic nucleus by multiple-cell spike density analysis in deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease....Pages 33-35 Microelectrode recording: lead point in STN-DBS surgery....Pages 37-42 Follow-up of bilateral subthalamic deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease....Pages 43-47 Rapid subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation lead placement utilising CT/MRI fusion, microelectrode recording and test stimulation....Pages 49-50 FDG-PET study of the bilateral subthalamic nucleus stimulation effects on the regional cerebral metabolism in advanced Parkinson disease....Pages 51-54 Front Matter....Pages 55-55 Stimulation of primary motor cortex for intractable deafferentation pain....Pages 57-59 Fifteen year experience of intrathecal baclofen treatment in Japan....Pages 61-63 Electrical stimulation of the anterior cingulate cortex in a rat neuropathic pain model....Pages 65-71 Long term follow-up results of dorsal root entry zone lesions for intractable pain after brachial plexus avulsion injuries....Pages 73-75 Endogenous and exogenous modulators of potentials evoked by a painful cutaneous laser (LEPs)....Pages 77-79 Long term results from percutaneous radiofrequency neurotomy on posterior primary ramus in patients with chronic low back pain....Pages 81-83 Front Matter....Pages 85-85 Chronic deep brain stimulation of subthalamic and anterior thalamic nuclei for controlling refractory partial epilepsy....Pages 87-91 Vagus nerve stimulation in pediatric intractable epilepsy: a Korean bicentric study....Pages 93-96 Seizure control of Gamma Knife radiosurgery for non-hemorrhagic arteriovenous malformations....Pages 97-101 Surgical resection of cavernous angiomas located in eloquent areas — clinical research....Pages 103-108 Front Matter....Pages 109-109 Spinal cord stimulation and cerebral haemodynamics....Pages 111-116 Idiopathic syringomyelia: case report and review of the literature....Pages 117-120 Front Matter....Pages 121-121 Migration of bone marrow stem cells in ischaemic brain....Pages 123-124 The behavioral effect of human mesenchymal stem cell transplantation in cold brain injured rats....Pages 125-132 Effect of human mesenchymal stem cell transplantation combined with growth factor infusion in the repair of injured spinal cord....Pages 133-136 Stem cell therapy in stroke: strategies in basic study and clinical application....Pages 137-139 Neural prosthesis in the wake of nanotechnology: controlled growth of neurons using surface nanostructures....Pages 141-144 A new and simple transection knife for study of neurodegeneration and neuroregeneration in animal model....Pages 145-150 Back Matter....Pages 151-153 Neurorehabilitation and functional neurosurgery are fields with advances and technologies including: selective interruption of various neural circuits, stimulation of the cerebral cortex, deep brain structures, spinal cord and peripheral nerves with implantable stimulation systems, and more.
